The 16th annual Cost vs. Value Report out this month showed that Texans recouped more than the national average on home improvement projects when selling their homes, and that changing weather patterns are affecting what remodel projects homeowners choose to invest in.
Texans saw an average 76.4 percent cost-value ratio on remodeling projects, while U.S. homeowners got a 66 percent return on investment on home improvements. But the addition of a backup power generator, a project averaging nearly $12,000, jumped 28 percent in estimated added resale value to recoup 67.5 percent of its cost in 2013, the report showed.
The report attributed “unpredictable weather and multiple large storms” for the project’s rise in popularity — not surprising to those of us living on the coast. This is a cool link for tracking blackouts: http://powerquality.eaton.com/blackouttracker/default.asp
